Alexander Technique Pre-Natal Classes
In Alexander pre-natal classes women learn how best to care of themselves physically, mentally and emotionally during the growing weeks and months ahead.  In Alexander pre-natal classes you learn why it is important to maintain a balanced, upright posture, i.e., optimum maternal positioning in order to assist optimum fetal position for labour and birth.  It is well recognized that when baby is in the optimum position for birth labour's are shorter and there is less low back pain.  In class a variety of balanced positions that allow maximum comfort for you (and baby) are discussed and demonstrated.  A balanced manner of use also alleviates joint pain, tiredness and anxiety.

In preparation for labour and birth
Alexander pre-natal classes help empower women by teaching them how to self-work during labour and birth.  The importance of how to breathe during the contractions is discussed and demonstrated with each participant.  Each participant also receives gentle hands-on guidance to demonstrate optimum maternal positions that allow freedom and help facilitate relaxation.

Once in established labour and in order to cope with the contractions it is necessary that women learn how to breathe in such a way that:- (a) facilitates the bodies natural pain killing hormones, endorphins and (b) assists a calm less agitated and fearful state.  The Alexander Technique's 'whispered ah' is extremely beneficial because it is done slowly, mindfully and with a free neck and jaw.  The 'whispered ah' is demonstrated and practiced with each participant...and partner or support person!
